What are CHCs?

Community Health Centres (CHCs) are non-profit organizations funded by the Ministry of Health that provide primary health and health promotion programs for individuals, families and communities. A health centre is established and governed by an elected board of directors.

Description of Board Role

The Barrie CHC is a community governed organization with a nine (9) member Board of Directors, the majority of whom are patients of the BCHC and other members reflective of the communities served.  Staff and providers are not members of the Board.  Board selection from the interested patients and community members is made using a lived - experience matrix.

  • Receive care without discrimination as to racialized group, ethnicity, age, religion, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation
  • Be informed about all available services (see our website www.bchc.ca or www.connectbchc.ca
  • Expect that all information about your care and services provided will be kept confidential and private according to the law. Information gathered from you throughout the course of your care or involvement with the Centre will be subject to the rules of confidentiality as well as privacy (see Confidentiality Policy, Mandatory Disclosures and Privacy Code)
